I Got Rhythm ~ 100 of George Gershwin & The Harlem Renaissance

In I Got Rhythm, The Hague music ensemble SoundWave Collective conducted by Libia Hernandez, Dutch-American actor Alexander Tol, Canadian singer Shanice Skinner and French pianist Nathalia Milstein celebrate the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin's most famous composition, Rhapsody in Blue .

From wailing clarinet to a swinging jazz rhythm: in just over an hour, music, theatre and atmosphere share the story of the Harlem Renaissance, Gershwin's boundless fascination with the (street and folk) arts in New York at the beginning of the twentieth century and the power of cultural exchange.

Now, 100 years after Rhapsody in Blue , it's perhaps time to look back. What exactly was brewing in that Harlem hotbed? A rich palette of colors, cultures, and personal ideas, at any rate. But for starters, Gershwin's music was noticeably influenced by early jazz. And specifically, the improvised, syncopated, and blues-based sound of Black musicians like Louis Armstrong.
