Shanice Skinner is a Canadian lyric soprano from Nova Scotia. With Nederlandse Reisopera, Shanice has performed in Die Zauberflöte (2023) and Orphée et Eurydice (2024) and will soon appear in Waiting for the Barbarians (2026). She will have her solo operatic debut with NRO as Suor Osmina in their 2027 production of Suor Angelica. Other recent opera and chorus work includes Schouwburg Hengelo’s rock-opera anniversary production of Pink Floyd’s The Wall (2026) and Carmen with Den Haag’s Opera2Day (2025). In 2025, she had her soloist debut at Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Muziekgebouw Eindhoven as a featured performer in the ‘Scherpdenkers’ concert-lecture series, where she performed a selection of songs  by Florence Price.

Shanice has performed as a semifinalist within international vocal competitions, including the 2022 Voice of Black Opera in Birmingham, England (The Black British Classical Foundation), and 2023 Les Grandes Voix Lyriques D'Afrique in Paris, France (Africa Lyric's Opera).

Her music education includes: a Master of Music in Classical Vocal Studies from The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (2022), as well as an Opera Diploma (2020) and an Honours Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (2017) from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Shanice has a passion for artistic research, and aims to pursue a PhD that focuses on intersectional feminism and decolonial practices within classical music in order to curate music events from a multidisciplinary and inclusive lens.

Shanice is a member of vocal ensemble Consensus Vocalis and was a 2023-2024 trainee with Netherlands Chamber Choir (NKK NXT).
